The context
Scale changes the economics.
Hubs, main frames and bearing housings are among the largest castings made, and rings and shafts among the largest forgings. Few suppliers can pour, forge or machine at that size, and each of them prices capacity as much as steel.
Mounting structures and trackers are the opposite: high-volume roll-formed and fabricated steel, where nesting, coating and logistics decide the cost. Both need the same discipline: know what the part should cost, know who can really make it, and manage the industrialisation.
